Slieve Gullion offers a wide range of facilities on its premises, such as the Giants Lair and Adventure Park, picturesque views extending over the lough of Carlingford, Co Louth, the ring of gullion, South Armagh and the extended area.

Walking in The Ring of Gullion
There are many scenic walking routes, for all ages and abilities in the Ring of Gullion and surrounding areas. There are challenging landscape and relaxing road routes available throughout the area with plenty of points of interest along the way.
The Poets Trail
The Poets trail is a collection of walking/cycling routes covering Creggan, Mullaghbane and Forkhill. The Poets Trail is a moderate road walking route along some main and quieter back roads. Each route passes a number of points of interest and cultural heritage including Creggan Churchyard, Ballykeel Dolmen and sites relevant to various South Armagh Poets.
The routes that make up the Poets Trail are:
Creggan Loop - 8 miles of quiet country roads taking the Poets Glen.
Urney Loop - 6 miles of unsurfaced lanes and public roads passing the Urney Graveyard.
O'Neill Loop - Flat & inclined public roads. Route features Creggan Graveyard.
Ballykeel Loop - 8 mile route on public roads visiting Ballykeel Dolmen.

Slieve Gullion - A 9.5 mile mountain walk exploring the Slieve Gullion area passing a chambered grave and Killeavy Castle.

Several water sports related clubs and events exist in the Ring of Gullion mainly concentrated around Camlough Lake, a large disused reservoir, located just outside the village of Camlough.
In 2009 the lake was the scene of a world record attempt for the longest distance swimming in relay in open water. 200 swimmers converged on the lake and swam a total of 425.48 miles. Since the achievement of the world record Camlough Lake has hosted many water sports events.

The Camlough Lake Water Festival committee promote water based sporting activities in and around Camlough Lake and Carlingford Lough for the purposes of fun and competition.

Crooked Lake Triathlon
The Crooked Lake Triathlon attracts hundreds of competitors from all over Ireland and the UK and has grown steadily since the first event in 2002. The event is held in June every year and The cross Square hotel, conveniently located close to the event, offers accommodation to all visiting competitors.
Camlough Canoeing & Kayaking Club
Canoeing and Kayaking lessons are held on Camlough Lake during midweek evenings and at weekends by the Camlough Canoeing & Kayaking Club.
Lessons are available to individuals and groups alike.

The Ring of Gullion and Slieve Gullion, in particular, have rich association with irish legends and myths, in one tale, Finn McCool was bewitched by Miluchra on the summit of Slieve Gullion at the Lough of the Calliagh Bhirra. To this day the superstition survives that if you bathe in the lough your hair will turn white. The Ring of Gullion is the jewel in the crown of south Armagh and has been hidden away for a lifetime from tourism.

Horse Racing & Equestrian
The Cross Square Hotel is located 20 mins drive away from Dundalk Stadium which hosts midweek and weekend horse and greyhound racing events. Voted Racecourse of the year iin 2013, Dundalk Stadium has many facilities and is a great venue for a night out.

Pony trekking excursions are available from Greenvale Equestrian Centre which is located approximately 10 mile from Crossmaglen. Go pony trekking through the Ring of Gullion and enjoy the South Armagh landscape on horseback, a truly unique experience.
The Kernan Equestrian Centre is owned and run by James Kernan, former international and Olympic show jumper. Kernan Equestrian Centre comprises of two arenas, one indoor and one outdoor.

Historical & Cultural Interests
South Armagh and The Ring of Gullion are steeped in archaeological, historical and cultural heritage. There are many tales, myths and legends associated with the area and the best way to learn about these and experience the beautiful landscape and landmarks is to embark on a tour with a local tour guide.

The Patrick Kavanagh Centre
Located just a 10 minute drive from The Cross Square Hotel, The Patrick Kavanagh Resource Centre houses exhibitions on local history and on Kavanagh, a sixty-seat Audio- Visual Theatre, and a Research Library. Also on view are twelve specially commissioned paintings illustrating Kavanagh’s epic poem “The Great Hunger”, a miniature model depicting Kavanagh’s classic, “A Christmas Childhood”, Kavanagh’s Death Mask and other memorabilia associated with the poet.
The special feature of the Patrick Kavanagh Centre is the unique performance tour of Kavanagh Country, which takes in many local sites immortalised by Inniskeen’s most famous son, with anecdotes, historical facts, wild rumours and even the odd poem along the way.
